Development
Shiromani Akali Dal is committed to the overall development of the state. Moving beyond just the development of basic infrastructure, it constantly strives for the well-being of the people of Punjab. The Shiromani Akali Dal–BJP alliance achieved a remarkable victory in the 2012 Assembly elections, which validated its agenda of “Development for All.” When it speaks of development for all, it envisions an unbiased, free world where everyone can realize their aspirations and dreams.
With the aim of achieving social equity, Shiromani Akali Dal strives to sustain inclusive and sustainable development in the state. The party is committed to the empowerment of the weaker and neglected sections of society. Recognizing that women are the backbone of social and economic progress, the Akali Dal-led Punjab government has launched several initiatives in the state for their development. The state’s ‘Mai Bhago Istri Shakti Yojana’ is paving a long-term path to empower women.
Shiromani Akali Dal has undertaken several major initiatives for the welfare of the people. Punjab is the only state to have launched welfare schemes like Atta-Dal (subsidized wheat and pulses) and Shagun (marriage assistance) for the poor. Similarly, under the Shiromani Akali Dal government, the Punjab state provides free electricity to farmers every year at an annual cost of ₹5,000 crore.
